Every family has chapters.

Some begin in one place and continue in another. Some expand. Some intertwine. And when they do, something steady and beautiful is built.

I’ve had the privilege of documenting this family since they were expecting their youngest daughter back in 2016 — when our boys were in preschool together and this chapter was just beginning. Year after year, I’ve watched their story unfold.

This season carries a little more weight. They’re temporarily settled in this home while building the next one on the lot where so many memories were made. And this gathering marked something else, too — a final visit before Jack begins a new adventure far from home. There was a toast. There was laughter. There was that quiet awareness that things are shifting.

Older kids stepping fully into adulthood.
One still delightfully in childhood.
Parents holding it all with steadiness and grace.

What I care about most in sessions like this isn’t perfect posing. It’s preserving what’s real — the glances, the inside jokes, the way everyone naturally leans toward each other without thinking.

There is something deeply special about a family that has chosen one another.

And it shows.
